Statement from HIGPA President on Endorsement of Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Policy

(WASHINGTON DC (May 22, 2008) - Curtis Rooney, President of HIGPA, recently announced the endorsement of the Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Policy Statement for Health Care at CleanMed 2008, the Global Conference on Environmentally Sustainable Health Care.

Mr. Rooney stated, "The group purchasing industry strongly supports environmental safety and patient safety. HIGPA wants to play a significant role in providing safer and better health care to all individuals and communities because we believe we can make a difference."

The Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Policy for Health Care is sponsored by the Global Health and Safety Initiative (GHSI) and affiliated with "Health Care Without Harm." The goal of this policy is to harness the power of participating hospital systems and their GPOs to address the increasing demand for more environmentally safer products and services. Mr. Rooney stated, "HIGPA is proud to endorse this policy and we applaud these efforts to increase the use of safer environmental practices in the health care supply chain."
