FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Allen Dunehew, Amerinet-St. Louis VP of Pharmacy Presented with the 2004 HIGPA Chairman’s Award Arlington, VA (October 19, 2004) The Health Industry Group Purchasing Association (HIGPA) awarded Allen Dunehew, Amerinet-St. Louis Vice President of Pharmacy with the inaugural health care purchasing industry’s 2004 HIGPA Chairman’s Award at the Association’s 2004 International EXPO in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Dunehew was recognized by HIGPA Chairman and Novation President Mark McKenna. This award focuses on a HIGPA member’s outstanding contribution to the health care purchasing industry on behalf of the Association. "It’s great that HIGPA offers the industry the opportunity for competitors to work collectively on common concerns for the ultimate goal of enhancing patient care. I want to thank my fellow Pharmacy Working Group members for their dedication, time commitment and expertise in addressing critical business issues affecting the industry and providers in particular," said Dunehew. "I am honored to be recognized for my service to HIGPA and the industry." Mr. Dunehew was honored with this award for his leadership of the HIGPA Pharmacy Working Group, comprised of Industry Members’ pharmacy contracting executives. In 2004 this group produced a February 2004 report titled, Integrity of the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain: Product Sourcing for Patient Safety. On behalf of HIGPA, Mr. Dunehew provided oral testimony to the Department of Health and Human Services Drug Importation Task Force, and was member of the 2004 National Pharmacy Forum Steering Committee. Additionally, he has led an effort to increase HIGPA communication and cooperation with the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, participated in discussions with HHS’s Office of Pharmacy Affairs regarding the 340B program, was one of two HIGPA representatives on the Healthcare Distribution Management Association’s Drug Availability Task Force and helped spearhead HIGPA’s comments regarding the Food and Drug Administration’s counterfeit Drug Task Force Interim report. HIGPA is a chartered trade association of over 160 health care purchasing and supply chain organizations. HIGPA's Industry Members include purchasing groups, associations, and health care provider alliances. HIGPA's Trading Partner members include many of the world's leading health care product manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and related suppliers. According to a recent study conducted by a former principal analyst at the Congressional Budget Office, hospitals save patients over $30 billion each year by purchasing products through group contracts.
