FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 5, 2000) -- The Health Industry Group Purchasing (HIGPA) is pleased its 2001 Board of Directors. New to the Board are: D. McWilliams Kessler, Executive Director, Wills Eye Hospital; Victor Samolovitch, Senior Vice President, AmeriNet Central; Howard E. Sanders, Chief Operating Officer, Premier Purchasing Partners; and George Vyverberg, Manager, National Accounts, Eli Lilly & Co. "HIGPA is pleased to welcome these four new members to the board and is anticipating an exciting and successful year," said HIGPA President & CEO Robert Betz, Ph.D. Ending their term as board members are Paul Ramey, President, Institutional Purchasing Service; Ian Rawson, Ph.D., President, AmeriNet Central; and Mary Schmidt, President, Customer Partnerships, Baxter Healthcare Corporation. "HIGPA would like to take this opportunity to thank each of these past board members for their commitment and dedication to the association and the group purchasing industry," Betz added. "Professionals such as Paul Ramey, who has served on HIGPA's Board since the association's founding ten years ago, are valuable partners in any endeavor." HIGPA's trading partner members include many of the world's leading health care product and medical supply manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and related suppliers. HIGPA's industry members include for-profit and not-for-profit corporations, purchasing groups, associations, multi-hospital systems, and health care provider alliances. According to a recent study conducted by a former principal analyst at the Congressional Budget Office, hospitals saved patients up to $19 billion in 1999 by purchasing products through group contracts.
