HIGPA ANNOUNCES SEVEN NEW MEMBERS, INCLUDING HEALTH TRUST PURCHASING GROUP & NHS PURCHASING AND SUPPLY AGENCY

WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 8, 2000) -- The Health Industry Group Purchasing Association (HIGPA) is pleased to announce that seven new companies -- including U.S.-based group purchasing organization Health Trust Purchasing Group and Great Britain-based NHS Purchasing & Supply Agency -- have recently joined the association.

In addition to these two new industry members, HIGPA's new trading partners are Beckman Coulter, Inc.; DeRoyal; Maxxim Medical Company; Pharmed Group, and Sepracore, Inc.

"HIGPA is pleased that more and more industry leaders -- including two leading purchasing companies -- are realizing that membership in HIGPA is an important step in making their voices heard in the health care supply chain industry," said HIGPA President and C.E.O. Robert Betz, Ph.D. "No other organization can promote their interests more adequately in health care industry's vendors, distributors, wholesalers and manufacturers than HIGPA. We sincerely welcome these leading health care companies to our affiliation," said Betz.

HIGPA's trading partner members include many of the world's leading health care product and medical supply manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and related suppliers. HIGPA's industry members include for-profit and not-for-profit corporations, purchasing groups, associations, multi-hospital systems, and health care provider alliances. According to a recent study conducted by a former principal analyst at the Congressional Budget Office, hospitals saved patients up to $19 billion in 1999 by purchasing products through group contracts.

HIGPA is a chartered trade association of approximately 180 health care purchasing and supply chain organizations that serve approximately three out of every four U.S. acute care hospitals, as well as most of the long term care, home care and medical group practice markets.
