HIGPA Code of Conduct Principles In July 2002 the Health Industry Group Purchasing Association (HIGPA) adopted a Code of Conduct Principles for health care group purchasing organizations (GPOs). The goal of the Code is to improve the delivery of products and services to health care providers, while also enabling health care institutions to access the latest and most innovative products at the most affordable cost. As a requirement for HIGPA membership, all American-based GPOs must annually self-certify compliance with the Code of Conduct. Additionally, each GPO must appoint a Compliance Officer to oversee that their company is abiding by the principle’s set forth in HIGPA Code. For more information about HIGPA’s Code of Conduct, please review the frequently asked questions. Additionally, in accordance with HIGPA’s Code, the Association created a web-based Vendor Information Exchange (See Section F.1) to further HIGPA’s Industry Members’ commitments in providing the best products at the best price to the patients they ultimately serve. Now every health care manufacturer has the ability to promote their “new and innovative” products by accessing the top U.S. based group purchasing organizations through the Association’s web site. This exchange is an open forum for any manufacturer, whether currently contracting with a purchasing organization or not, to provide detailed information about their new product to HIGPA’s members. |
